On May 28th, Cathy Huang, the president of China Bridge, was invited by PIVOT and the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) to deliver a speech about connecting with opportunities in China. The event held at the famous Chester Beatty Library was specially arranged for Cathy’s visit. The crowd was overfilled with political leaders, entrepreneurs, designers and professors in attendance.

Joe Costello TD, Minister of State for Trade and Development, made the opening speech. Dublin, one of the last cities selected as world capital of design in 2011, pays high attention to the development of design and innovation industry. In February of this year, Chinese vice president, Xi Jinping, visited Ireland hoping that the two countries can grasp opportunities and reach cooperation to make business projects successful on the basis of mutual benefit. The aim of the Cathy’s visit was to promote the communication and cooperation in design and innovation industry between Ireland and China.

After Ms. Huang’s speech, Andres Montague, the mayor of Dublin, Michelle Fagan, head of RIAI, and PJ Rudden, president of Irish Academy of Engineer all joined in a dialogue with Cathy. The visit attracted great attention and feedback from the government. 120 people attended this event instead of 100 forcing the host to limit the amount of entrants. After the event, Cathy, accepted the interviews with local media and replied to questions about the current situation and development of the Chinese design industry by sharing her knowledge gained through China Bridge’s design practice.

After the trip of Ireland, Cathy attended the “Product Design + Innovation Conference” held in London for another speaking engagement.
